Buying

What should I be paying?

Fortunately the V90 range is nice and small, you’ve only got two cars to choose from. There are Plus and Ultra trims, the former priced at £59,410 and the latter at £67,410. Seems a steep uptick, but remember the former gets the T6 PHEV with 345bhp and the latter the T8 badge and a healthy 449bhp.

What do you get with the trims?

An exceptionally generous pile of kit – entry-level doesn’t really mean anything here. The Plus car comes with 19in alloys, dual zone aircon, heated front seats, outer rear seats, steering wheel and windscreen, 9.0 portrait infotainment touchscreen, 360-degree parking sensors, auto lights and wipers, powered tailgate, keyless go, adaptive cruise control, Google Maps navigation and a fancy Harman Kardon sound system. Phew.

Ultra upgrades you to 20in alloys, adaptive headlights, a fancier electronic air suspension, head-up display, tinted rear windows, panoramic sunroof and an even fancier Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

In terms of extras, there aren’t many big ticket items – you can choose to pay £785 for swankier paint, £1,500 for a Nappa leather interior or £400 on the Plus model for the tinted windows that come as standard on the Ultra.

Which one should I go for?

It’s entirely subjective whether you want to shell out an extra £8k for a slug more power and some fancier stuff in your Volvo. That said, the Ultra is definitely V90ier with its added luxury. Go on, treat yourself.
