Top Gear's top five sports cars

We pick our five favourite sports cars you can buy

  • BMW i8

It’s a sports car people, but not as we know it. i8 is enthralling, intoxicating and enjoyable in whole new ways. Think of it as a 918 Spyder for a sixth of the price.

    £104,540, 367bhp, 236lb ft, 0-62mph in 4.4secs, VMax 155mph, 134.5mpg, 49g/km CO2

  • Porsche Cayman

The new Cayman is quite probably the most engaging all-round sports car package available. And that included big brother 911. Drives beyond beautifully.

    £39,694, 275bhp, 213lb ft, 0-62mph in 5.7secs, VMax 165mph, 34.4mpg, 192g/km CO2

  • Porsche 911

Still the best day-to-day sports car if you need four seats (well, 2+2-ish), even with the Carrera’s new turbo’d engine. N/A fans can still go Cayman for £35K less.

    £76,412, 370bhp, 331lb ft, 0-62mph in 4.6secs, VMax 183mph, 34.0mpg, 190g/km CO2

  • Nissan GT-R

A paragon of brutal go-faster efficiency, the GT-R remains in a class of its own. Not to everyone’s taste, but you can’t argue with the results. It’s very determined.

    £78,030, 550bhp, 466lb ft, 0-62mph in 2.8secs, VMax 195mph, 24.0mpg, 275g/km CO2

  • Jaguar F-Type Coupe

The convertible was very good, the coupe is much better. Especially in V8 R guise with 542bhp. Taut, direct, lovely to listen to and beautiful to behold.

    £51,260, 335bhp, 332lb ft, 0-62mph in 5.5secs, VMax 161mph, 28.8mpg, 234g/km CO2
