Morgan Supersport review
Buying
What should I be paying?
Morgan wants the Supersport to carve out a bit of breathing space above the smaller Plus Four – which means a sizeable leap in price over the outgoing Plus Six. The Supersport starts at £85,000 before local taxes, which means £102,000 in the UK before you’ve begun clicking anything on the configurator.
Which you will. If Morgan hopes to more successfully lure Porsche owners into its grasp, then mimicking its options structure – i.e. paying extra for stuff that feels intrinsic to the driving or ownership experience – is one way to do it. Our test car totalled £126k thanks to options including the £3,600 Sennheiser stereo, £3,000 sports exhaust, £3,000 Dynamic Handling Pack (aka Nitron dampers and an anti-roll bar) plus lighter, 19in Aerolite wheels for a princely £4,800. Oh, and its heated seats were a £420 extra you’ll find standard on cars a fraction of the price.
A Mohair soft top comes as standard. You can swap it directly for the carbon composite hard top in these images for £4,194, but the car isn’t designed to be driven with it removed. If you want full flexibility you’ll need to spend £6,594 to get both roofs which are then interchangeable – with an extra pair of hands at home or when you pop the car into your dealer for a service. Which occurs annually or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.
It’s not going to be cheap then, but it’ll be rare, and Morgan says no two cars ever leave its factory the same. Which means you can expect a good chunk of its value to hold if your colour combination isn’t too wacky. Morgan makes around 700 cars a year in Malvern and around 200 will be a Supersport. No need to worry about tariffs, though; unlike the Super 3 and Plus Four, it’s not yet homologated for the United States.
