What is it like to drive?

The steering steers and the suspension suspends, but after a while anyone keen to exploit the Venga's driving thrills will slip into a disinterested snooze.

The comfort is perfectly judged for its target market, it's soft and a bit forgettable.

The 1.4-litre diesel feels flat but above 2,500rpm gets a little shot in the arm: 0-60mph takes 14 seconds, and the payoff for this lethargy is 62mpg and emissions of 119g/km of CO2. The 123bhp petrol is faster (11.8 seconds) but you lose 20mpg in the process.
