When you’re not torching tyres the Ford Focus RS is comfortable and spacious enough to be used as a family-friendly daily driver  – handy for justifying it to your other half. Ford claims economy and CO2 of 36.7mpg and 175g/km, but it lies. Not using the engine’s full performance, even occasionally, is impossible – in reality you’ll do well to keep fuel economy in the mid-20s.
