What should I be paying?
There are two specifications available on the 600e – entry level Red is a partnership with Bono’s charity that does nice things for people around the world (every car makes a donation to the fund), then there’s La Prima (the best one). The Red will cost you £29,975 and the La Prima is priced at £32,975 on the road.
The base 600 Hybrid 100HP – the cheapest hybridised 600 Fiat sells – starts from £24,350. The 136HP base car moves that up to £25,350. ‘La Prima’ cars start from £27,350 for the 100HP, and £28,350 for the 136HP version.
What are the specs like?
The Red comes with 16in steel wheels and two-tone trims, red accents throughout the interior, a 10.25in touchscreen and 7.0in digital instrument cluster, auto lights and wipers, keyless start, rear parking sensors, cruise control and air conditioning.
The top-spec car is the better bet if you’re after decent kit and don’t mind saying no to Bono. You get heated front seats (electrically adjustable for the driver), parking sensors all round plus a rear camera, electric folding mirrors, USB-C plugs in the back, keyless entry and a powered tailgate.
Which one should I go for?
The La Prima model is a no-brainer if it fits your budget – you get vastly better kit for barely any drop in range. The 600e mostly undercuts its Stellantis stablemates (Avenger and Mokka) on price, especially with the e-grant offer in place, though Citroen’s e-C4 offers better family practicality at the same price as the Fiat (before the grant). You also couldn’t go too far wrong getting a much cheaper secondhand Nissan Leaf or similar.
What if I still hate electricity and want a combustion engine?
Standard stuff on the base Hybrid cars includes a 7in digital display, 10in infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and four whole speakers! There’s cruise control, an e-brake, air con, paddle shifters on the steering wheel which you’ll never use, rear parking sensors, 17s, and even a rain and dusk sensor.
Though as with the 600e, La Prima is the one to go for if you can afford it. That gets 18in alloys, Level 2 driving, a centre armrest, electric windows, heated seats, chrome and gloss black detailing, rear privacy glass, blind spot detection and six whole speakers!
