What should I be paying?

Prices kick off at just over £62,960, which is a £10k uplift in price compared to what it cost when the mid-life facelift arrived. Yikes.

But, a quick glance at rivals reveals it’s around a grand cheaper than a Volvo XC90, around seven grand cheaper than an Audi Q7, and… let’s just say significantly cheaper than a Merc GLS. Suddenly the Disco starts to seem like good value.

On lease you’re looking at £750 a month over four years.

What about the kit list?

At present there are four trim options (if you disregard the Discovery commercial which swaps all semblance of back seats for a van-spec load bay).

The base spec S cars have 20in alloys, LED headlights with signature DRL, body-coloured roof, ebony interior and 14-way heated electric front seats. Dynamic SE (£68,760) adds 21in alloys, black contrast plus fixed front and rear sunroofs, light oyster interior, 18-way front seats and a Meridian sound system.

Dynamic HSE (£78,020) bags you 22in alloys, Matrix LED headlights, 20-way heated seats, and light oyster/ebony interior with Windsor leather. Top spec Metropolitan Edition (£78,020) is essentially the same but throws in a sliding front sunroof, head-up display, intelligent seat fold and heated third row seats.

All versions also get adaptive air suspension that’ll squat down for loading heavy items (and elderly dogs) or cut drag above 65mph, and stand up on tiptoes for serious off-roading.

And if it were your money?

Well, if you’re looking to square up to all the M Sport BMW X7s and AMG-line Mercs in the finishing school car park it’s gotta be the Dynamic HSE. Land Rover’s done an admirable job rationalising the ride on 22in rims, but we’d go for the slightly more pliant riding (not to mention the less in-your-face image) of Dynamic SE spec.
