Video: the Abarth 124 Spider rally car really likes to slide
Abarth promised an oversteering rally car, and this 124 Spider appears to be it
Nowadays, rally cars all follow a fairly similar, all-wheel-driven recipe. But it wasn’t always so: history is rich in rear-drive heroes such as the Lancia Stratos and Porsche 911.
And Abarth wants those days of oversteering rally cars to return. We first met its new RWD rally contender, the 124 Spider R-GT, back at the Geneva motor show. Now we’ve had our first peek at it in action, as Abarth develops the 124 ahead of 2017 competition.
Lo and behold, a 296bhp, lightweight RWD roadster really does like to shimmy its way around corners, even when their surface isn’t particularly deficient in grip. Just as we hoped.
The chuffs and farts from its turbocharged drivetrain, those delicate slides, its adorable little roof scoop… there’s a lot to enjoy.
If you’ve around 150,000 euros spare and fancy a season of tremendously fun rallying, then it looks like a good way to go. Just give us a call and let us have a go, please?
