You can now buy a four-cylinder Mercedes-AMG GT supercar for £101k
The AMG GT '43' - the big shouty Merc with the small shouty hot hatch engine - is now officially available
When Mercedes-Benz revealed the entry-level AMG GT 43 early last year, it said it most definitely wouldn’t be coming to the UK. Well, it most definitely has, and it becomes the new starting point for the range at £101,685. It seems V8s aren’t the only thing it's indecisive about.
Included in that price is the whizzy mild-hybrid turbo four-pot pinched wholesale from the AMG A45 hyper hatch. It's been retuned here to deliver 415bhp and 369lb ft to the rear wheels through AMG’s nine-speed auto ‘box. It’ll still spring to 62 in 4.6s and top out at 174mph, so don’t be fooled - the baby GT is still a corker in a straight line. Options here include adaptive damping, rear-wheel steering and a proper e-diff, should you find yourself wanting further mechanical support.
As for the standard equipment, you’ll get four-way lumbar supported seats, a Burmester audio system, 12.3in digital cluster and 11.9in infotainment screen, both controlled using the centre-console-mounted mouse pad. There’s lots of ambient lighting strips and those fancy-looking blower fans dotted around the cabin too.
The GT 43 also gets a slightly different exterior to its brawnier 63 variant, with key differences being narrower arches, a restyled front air intake and circular exhaust tips. You can have a rear wing as another option too, and swell the standard 19in alloys into a 20 or 21in forged set.
You’ll need to fork out an extra £42k for the next-up GT 55, the cheapest one with a V8, and a whopping £90k more for the one with the really long name. Or, you can give Brabus a call about a bonkers 750bhp version, but you’d best prepare a cheque for at least £262k. Ouch.
