This is a tribute to the Maserati Birdcage from the man who penned the Ferrari Enzo
Ken Okuyama’s Kode61 Birdcage debuts at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este
Here’s something we weren’t expecting to see over the weekend. Ken Okuyama – the Japanese designer who penned the Ferrari Enzo while working at Pininfarina – has unveiled a new tribute to the Maserati Tipo 60/61, otherwise known as the Birdcage.
Dramatic, isn’t it? The Kode61 Birdcage is a two-seat speedster that gets sharp headlights, raised fenders and two little bubbles to protect your face from the wind. The rear angle is particularly favourable too.
We don’t actually have any technical details available, but Okuyama has said that his eponymous Japanese carrozzeria plans to handmake a ‘limited number’ in its Yamagata factory.
Those wheels look suspiciously like they’ve come off a Maserati MC20 supercar, though, don’t they? Perhaps there’s a Nettuno V6 under the skin somewhere too. And is that an open-gate manual gearbox we spy? Questions need to be asked…
Before we get the answers, let us know your thoughts on the design in the comments section below.
