Look at this gorgeous 1950s Maserati 200S racer
The glorious old Maser has been restored to its former glory. Your only job is to stop and stare
Milan's Larusmiani boutique is showcasing this gorgeous 1956 Maserati 200S as part of the city’s celebrated Design Week, and yup, why the heck not.
Especially when it looks... like a gorgeous 1956 Maserati 200S. The swoopy lines, the headlights set back in their teardrop-shaped position, that perfect-shade-of red paintwork and the deliciously vintage instrument dials... pure class missing in a lot of today's contemporary creations.
Just 28 of these punchy, 187bhp 2.0-litre four-pot racers were built - packing a pair of Weber carbs - and this one arrived on the scene back in April 1956. It was then used in real motorsport, driven "in various competitions by drivers such as Gilberto Cornacchia". Old Gilbert was apparently the son of the Maser dealership owner in Milan at the time.
Its working days ended in 1960, after which it basically lounged around in Maserati's factories until 1999, when it became part of the Panini Collection in Modena, and later that year was sold to the current owner. Said owner was the person responsible for bringing it back to its 50s glory. Like we said, gorgeous.
