This incredibly rare, incredibly powerful Saleen S7 is up for auction
The Nineties called, and it wants... over half a million quid for a one-of-two, 1,000bhp+ US hypercar
Is anything more Noughties than a lipstick red, butterfly-doored Saleen S7 with forged chrome alloys? Probably not. So for those who want a little bit of Candy Shop with a little bit of extra performance, Bring a Trailer has a one-of-two, 1,100-mile Saleen S7s with the Competition Pack up for sale.
Well, perhaps more than a 'little bit'. Aside from the extra body attachments and race-grade goodies inside (both of which we’ll touch on in a moment), what sets this ultra-rare version of one of America’s first true hypercars apart is the output: 1,014bhp from a 7.0-litre V8. It’s also said a big fat ‘yes please’ to a new pair of turbochargers.
Other notable changes include a Motec engine management system (no, not the one Hector plans to run at Race Wars), a much stronger induction kit and a full engine overhaul by Fountain Race Engines. You also get a suite of updates to the electric systems and an oh-so-sweet six-speed manual box.
On to the visual enhancements, which include a huge square-cut rear wing, a sharper front splitter and… that’s about it. Though these additions do bring new life to the already plentiful supply of scoops and vents.
Moving on to the interior, we hope you’re not expecting a lounge of technology… because it’s a near-20-year-old hypercar. Still, the black and red upholstery is complemented by racing harnesses and a Kenwood CD/DVD player. It’s a touchscreen too, we’ll have you know.
For those wanting to turn their interest into a reality, the current bid sits at just over £500,000. We reckon that’ll continue to climb a fair bit by the time the auction concludes within the next few days.
