This is a 1956 Ford F-100 with an 800bhp Coyote V8
Fat Fender Garage lives up to its name with a 5.0-litre V8 and a new handcrafted body
Custom truck builder Fat Fender Garage has unveiled its latest build ahead of the SEMA show, and it’d be fair to say the company is living up to its name.
The GT/FX was once a 1956 Ford F-100, but FFG has sat it on a whole new ladder frame chassis built in-house, while the body – complete with those exceptionally wide arches – is all steel and fabricated by hand to “reshape the F-100’s proportions”.
It has certainly done that. We’re told the roof and bonnet were flattened and the whole cab sectioned by two inches. The original grille is the only major exterior part left untouched, with custom running boards, carbon fibre mirrors, a new truck bed, a bespoke front bumper and the rear diffuser from a Mustang GT350.
There’s a Mustang engine hiding under the hood too – a 5.0-litre Coyote V8 that’s boosted by a 3.0-litre Whipple supercharger to make 800bhp and 750lb ft of torque. Now, we’re hardly truck experts, but we think that might be a little more than F-100s made as standard in the 1950s.
All of that power is sent through a 10-speed automatic gearbox, and there’s an FFG exhaust with Borla XR-1 Raceline mufflers for maximum noise. The whole thing sits on 20in HRE wheels and gets modern coilovers and Wilwood disc brakes.
Inside there’s a custom black leather interior with bucket seats and a modern screen and switchgear. The whole project took 15,000 hours of design, engineering and fabrication. “GT/FX is the most ambitious build in the company’s history and the culmination of decades of collective experience within Fat Fender Garage,” reads the accompanying release.
