Mitsubishi Evo IX news - End of the nine - 2007

Published: 10 Jan 2007

As Pete and Dud sang, it's farewell, ta-ta, farewell and goodnight to the Mitsubishi Evo IX.

But we wouldn't expect the maddest rally bred saloon to bow out without one final bout of insanity, and here it is: the Evolution IX MR.

The MR stands for Mitsubishi Racing and signifies a 366bhp version of the Evo's 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in a limited run-out model where only 200 will come to the UK.

That's more than enough to see it from rest to 62mph in 3.9 seconds and on to 157mph.

There are some subtle modifications to the suspension to lower the ride height by 10mm at the front and 5mm at the rear, while the Super Active Yaw Control can now divide the power more accurately between the rear wheels.

There's a carbon-fibre front lip spoiler and 11-spoke alloy wheels.

Otherwise, it's lunacy as normal for the asking price of £35,539 for the last Evo of its kind in a history stretching back 14 years.
