What the? The Smart #5 Brabus is a 637bhp e-SUV capable of 0-62mph in 3.8s

The mid-sized SUV now rivals the pace of the Range Rover Sport SV

Published: 09 Apr 2025

Top automotive fettler, Brabus, has had a tinker with the newly launched Smart Hashtag Five and the result is a mid-sized SUV powerful enough to compete with the Range Rover Sport SV.

Yes, the range-topping Smart #5 Brabus combines an all-wheel-drive system with a fully electric powertrain capable of delivering 475kW (or 637bhp in old money), and a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds with the help of Launch Control. Speed tops out at a sufficient 130mph.

The 800V electrical architecture using the 100kWh battery of the #5 Premium delivers about 336 miles of official range, and a rapid charge (up to 400kW) to rejuice the battery to 80 per cent in a swift-ish 18 minutes.

To complete the performance package, there are new bumpers and side skirts, 21in Brabus wheels coupled with red brake calipers, and various badges to denote you've got the Really Fast One. And just like the Smart #3 Brabus, the tuner has integrated simulated engine sounds for your aural pleasure.

Not that you'll really hear much. In the cabin, the tech kit includes a posh 2000W Sennheiser audio suite with 20 speakers, including one that rises in the centre (see pic).

Elsewhere, the mid-sized performance SUV has one driver display and two 13in displays – one for the car, and the other for the front passenger. There are heated and vented front seats and heated rear seats wrapped in fake suede and accented by plenty of red including devilishly coloured seat belts. The panoramic glass roof is standard.

Illuminated Brabus lettering on the steering wheel, sporty pedals and name tags dotted about mean occupants are as aware this is no ordinary Smart #5 from the inside as they are outside. It'll go on sale in Germany at the end of April for a relatively reasonable €60,900 (£52,338) and will roll into other markets later in the year.
