This Genesis X Gran Equator concept is a cool four-seat off-roader
Just build it already, Genesis
This is the Genesis X Gran Equator, yet another striking concept from the posh South Korean carmaker that it needs to hurry up and build already. Still waiting on that X Berlinetta and Coupe thing, Genesis.
Hyundai’s luxury offshoot explains it as “a bold exploration of elegance and adventure”, though you might rationalise it better as a bold exploration of a Defender, G-Class and Land Cruiser rival.
No mention has been made of its powertrain – likely electric, likely 4WD – but Genesis reckons it’ll be acceptable both on-road and very much off it. The latter is helped in part by the concept’s 24in beadlock wheels, wheel-arch cladding and raised ride height.
The on-road bit? Certainly looks the part, all clean, uncluttered lines, an estate-like rear (with a split-opening boot), roof rails, five-spoke alloys, Genesis’ familiar light patterns and… little else.
Ditto the interior. There’s a mix of digital and analogue – have a closer look at that centre console layout – while seating is for four, and four only.
“While not confirmed for production, its design language and innovative features – such as the integrated roof rails and split-opening tailgate – showcase the brand’s future design potential,” said Genesis.
This is not the answer we were looking for. Just hurry up and build it already, Genesis.
