The 933bhp Denza Z9 GT is coming to the UK

It looks a bit like a Taycan Sport Turismo, and power figures suggest it acts like one too

Published: 11 Apr 2025

This is the Denza Z9 GT, a very powerful albeit rather heavy four-door luxury estate car heading for the UK. How powerful? There's almost 1,000bhp available in the battery-electric variant, while the Z9 GT is also available in plug-in hybrid flavour.

The all-electric version produces 933bhp with 848lb ft of torque to deliver a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds – not bad for a car over five metres long and weighing 2.8 tonnes. Oof.

To move its considerable heft, there are three electric motors (one on the front axle, two on the rear) capable of 23,000rpm, allied to a giant 100kWh battery that give the Z9 GT an official range (by Chinese testing) of 391 miles.

The hybrid variant uses the Super DM i-hybrid tech we’ve previously met on the BYD Seal U SUV. Here, it’s coupled with a 2.0-litre four-pot turbo engine producing 201bhp and those three electric motors to take the total amount of grunt to 858bhp.

Torque stands at 689lb ft, so despite the additional hybrid gubbins, the Denza Z9 GT PHEV completes the 0-62mph sprint in a still-very-respectable 3.8 seconds. We’re told it’s good for 125 miles of electric-only driving, too.

Regardless of powertrain, the Z9 has some other nifty features rarely seen on these shores. For example, the rear wheels adjust 15 degrees so you can crab-walk it into a parking space. It also comes with cameras instead of traditional side mirrors.

The tech-swaddled cabin is all about space and displays. So many displays. There's the 17.3in central display, displays for the side cameras and a rear entertainment display that drops down for rear occupants like they were on a private jet. Other notable features include heated/vented/massaging/super-reclining front seats, a crystal drive selector, pano roof and a 488-litre boot. There are also 'active side bolsters' to hug you when cornering.

'Denza who', you might ask? Sitting under the BYD umbrella, Denza originally started out as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes, but it’s all Chinese now. Its name translates to ‘win power’ and it's out to make in-roads with MPVs and other models in due course built 'in Europe, for Europe'.

No word on UK specs or pricing, or a definitive launch date, though we look forward to much 'win powering' when the Z9 GT arrives.
