Ready to relax, stretch out your legs, or even sit on the floor to eat? Say hi to the Concept EV2, the blueprint for Kia's small city car.

Like its PV5 van and EV4 siblings, the style of the Concept EV2 is pretty minimalist, with clean lines, star-shaped lights and a geometric wheel design. It’s essentially a bold, new take on the Kia Soul with – what looks like – a smidgen more ground clearance. That’ll be the SUV… ness.

The Korean carmaker's president Ho-Sung Song says it's dedicated to making EVs ‘truly accessible for everyone’, which quite literally translates as rear-hinged doors to make it easier to get in and out of.

Inside, there's a front bench, and a folding second-row bench-styled seat which can be slid back to create even more space up front. According to Kia, the flat floor will adequately accommodate you and your guests for a meal – taking 'going out for dinner' to a whole new (lower) level.

Elsewhere inside, there's a panoramic glass roof, a metal-accented dash housing a wide touchscreen display, and seats featuring colour-coordinated headrest speakers.

We're told the dash has its own light-based animations, and there's even LED lighting in the windows, displaying customisable messages you can send to pedestrians and other road users. Kia's cute example reads 'Have a nice day' and nope, we absolutely cannot see that descending into terrific chaos.

Though it's too soon for details on the powertrain, Kia does say the car's battery will have vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging capabilities. That'll help keep devices adequately juiced on a camping trip.

The production-ready Kia EV2 will be looking to rival the likes of the Peugeot e-208, Vauxhall Corsa-e and MG4 when it comes to Europe next year. More as we get it.
