Bentley Brooklands Coupe news - Geneva show: Bentley Brooklands - 2007

Published: 06 Mar 2007

No motorshow is complete without a decent dose of imperial British decadence, and Geneva is proving no exception.

After Rolls Royce stole the headlines with the Drophead Coupe in Detroit, Bentley is trying to do the same with this: the Brooklands coupe.

Described as having 'classic British proportions' - for which read 'terrifyingly gigantic' - the four-seater coupe gets the same 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8 as the Arnage and the Azure, but with power boosted to a massive 530bhp.

With a locking torque converter, presumably to stop the drivetrain exploding spectacularly, the Brooklands channels its power to the road through a semi-auto gearbox. Those 20-inch rims are standard, too - no trick show car alloys here.

Strictly limited to a production run of 550 cars, the Brooklands will make up in exclusivity what it lacks in environmental awareness and understatedness when it hits British roads in early 2008.
