Here’s your chance to own a road-legal Porsche 962… for a million quid

In return, you’ll get a seat which has hosted the bottoms of both Derek Bell and Mario Andretti

The 962 is a car that needs little introduction. It won Le Mans three times and together with its 956 predecessor, is without doubt the most successful machine from the bonkers era of Group C racing. So… fancy owning one that’s road-legal for a smidge under a million quid?

You’ll find the listing for chassis ‘CK6-88’ here, and it’s a car we know well, having driven it over a decade ago. It was built by Kremer Racing and campaigned across multiple fronts in 1988, winning at the Hungaroring, Hockenheim and Wunstorf under the skillful stewardship of Kris Nissen.

Later that year, it was one of eight 962s to finish in the top 10 at Le Mans, and was even driven by Mario Andretti in a Group C vs IMSA prototypes shoot-out special before retiring from formal racing duties. Some resume, right?

After three decades of holidaying with private owners, Coventry-based BBM Sport converted it for trips to the grocers and back by adding a handbrake, a traction control system and headsets for passenger communication. Unsurprisingly, the 750bhp twin-turbo flat-six ain’t no church mouse - especially when the revs are tempted out with the help of that five-speed manual.

It’s a special car, this. And considering it costs around half what a modern hyper EV would - like a Pininfarina Battista - we’d say it’s... reasonably priced too.
