Here’s a Ford Mondeo touring car gaming rig that could be yours for under £10k
Want your slice of blue and yellow BTCC royalty with a PlayStation attached? Look no further
This is a Ford Mondeo Supertouring car turned sim rig for sale at Iconic Auctioneers, and yes, it is just about one of the coolest things you can spend £10,000 on.
It was the actual test car used ahead of the 1999 BTCC season before being converted into a simulator a year later. Aside from the TV poking out above its bonnet and the white pit board, it looks pretty much identical to an example that would’ve raced for real.
The cabin still has the proper pedals, steering wheel, gearbox and switches attached, with bits of carbon trim throughout. You’ll even get a copy of TOCA Touring Car Championship loaded up into the PS1, so you can jump straight in and pretend to be Alain Menu.
In case you didn’t know, Menu was the man who spearheaded Ford and Prodrive’s assault on the 2000 season with the Mondeo, snatching first-place in the driver’s championship and helping to sweep the manufacturer’s title as well.
And what a piece of kit it is to look at. The second-generation Mondeo (or facelifted first generation, as some call it) already has some seriously sporty cues to it. The curved headlights look angry, and the low boot lid was always ripe for a big rear wing. The blue and yellow livery is just about as iconic as anything from the touring car history book, and the fact that sections of the bodywork remain damaged and bits of the interior are still dusty only adds to the authenticity.
At the time of writing, the highest bid sits at just £1,700 with less than three days to go - still well short of the estimate. Worth a punt surely?
