Why Rado’s stunning ceramic watches are turning heads and hearts alike

The Rado True Square Open Heart watch design is a wearable showcase of elegance and Swiss precision

When it comes to gifting, there’s a lot to be said for choosing quality rather than quantity, buying just one precious thing you know will be truly loved and appreciated for years to come. Of course, finding that special something may feel like an impossible task – until you discover Rado’s newest exquisite pair of timepieces.

The Swiss manufacturer’s True Square Open Heart models are unique, effortless in style and the embodiment of mechanical excellence, making them a desirable addition to any watch collection. Available in black for men and white for women, they’re updated versions of a Rado classic, and while perfect on their own, they have also been designed to complement one another when worn together.

What makes them truly stand out from the crowd, however, is the high-tech ceramic they’re forged in. It’s a beautifully light substance, and one that also resists wear magnificently – the only material that can scratch it is a diamond. Its lightness and great dimensional stability have also made possible some tremendous and unique innovations at Rado, such as the monobloc construction — where primary movement components are actually fastened directly into the case, without the heavy metallic framework.

The result? A light, comfortable watch that doesn’t overheat in the summer or get too cold in the winter, and looks as new after 50 years of wear as the day you first put it round your wrist.

Opposites attract

Both True Square Open Heart models feature the iconic square design that has long been a signature of Rado’s. The result is a striking face that deserves to be shown off. The men’s model has an injection-moulded monobloc case and bracelet in glossy black high-tech ceramic and comes equipped with a titanium case back with black PVD coating and sapphire crystal. The edges of the square are elegantly rounded and rhodium-coloured, while the skeletonisation creates a sleek dial that offers a fascinating view of the automatic movement within.

The women’s model, meanwhile, is subtly different but makes an equally impactful statement. Executed in immaculate white high-tech ceramic, it features 12 elegant diamonds marking each hour. The dials on both models also boast golden hands and gilt-edged cut-outs, for an extra touch of refinement.

Thanks to the intricate pattern of windows in the dial, Rado’s calibre R734 automatic movement sits in full view within these classic watches, allowing aficionados to spot all the hallmarks of peerless Swiss engineering. With the finely crafted balance, gears and polished components taking centre stage, you can rest assured the True Square Open Heart is a watch with both style and substance. Indeed, it has 80-hour power reserve to back up those alluring good looks, making it a watch with staying power for everyday life.
